Early painting

I made this painting in 2004 as a commission for a piece in Elle Decoration. The only record I have is a printed leaflet for my sister’s art company Kiss My Art, and a tattered copy of the magazine it was featured in (I have no idea where the painting ended up).

For a few years we made paintings for private commissions, restaurants, interior designers and occasionally magazines like Elle Deco when they needed something specific to fit with an interior for a story.

The source image was a portrait I had taken, rendered in two layers of giant halftones and hand painted using a projector as a guide. Named ‘La Kai’ which means ‘the girl’ in French (the subject was French).

Big halftones pop up throughout my work even now, I just love how they look!
