Island Snowboards Volume: One
It was an honour to be asked by Japanese brand Island Snowboards to design the graphics for their flagship model the Vol:One. The Hokkaido based board makers are a new brand of handmade and engineered snowboards and represent a pinnacle of board design as well as leading the way for smaller, sustainable brands who are turning their backs on mass production, working with a more boutique, personal set of core values.
The Volume One is their original and most popular board shape, designed for deep powder, powerful piste carving and all mountain riding.
My graphic uses an old x-ray of my skull taken during the winter season of 2002 while I was living in Meribel, France. The image is split across the 4 lengths in the range and comes in a psychedelic colour version or a monotone version. A custom ‘Vol:One’ logotype and hand-drawn graphic icons referencing the cycles of life & death, love, growth and renewal complete the design.
